In the middle of the year, Apple hosts three to four events. Usually there is a spring event in March, an International Conference of Engineers in June, a September event focused on the iPhone and Apple Watch, and sometimes an October event if there are iPads or Macs expected in the fall.
In this guide, we keep track of all of Apple's events close to what we expect to see at each event, so be sure to check in again and again.
April event
Apple hosted the event in April 2021 and unveiled AirTags, new iMac models, an updated Apple TV 4K, and refreshing versions of the 11 Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It is unclear whether we can see more product launches in May, but it is likely that the next opportunity for new devices will be in June at WWDC.
June event - WWDC
Apple hosts the International Developers Conference every year, and by 2021, we expect to see iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 8, and macOS 12. Apple previously used additional numbers for macOS updates, but because we already have software updates with macOS number 11.1, we can assume that MacOS updates will now be upgraded with the full number similar to iOS updates.
We are not doing much with any of these software updates yet, but we do know that some notification and Message changes are reserved for iOS 15 and there are home screen changes scheduled for iPadOS 15.
September Event
IPhone 13
We are expecting four iPhone 13 models in the same size as the iPhone 12 models, and Apple plans to use the same standard design. The 120Hz ProMotion display is expected, such as camera development, A15 chip, and 5G speed. The iPhone 13 models will have a smaller design, which will be one of the biggest design tweaks. Improvements in battery life are also expected, as are other camera enhancements.
Apple 7 series
Apple introduces new models of the Apple Watch every year, but we don't know what to expect from the series 7. Maybe we can get new health sensors, but there are no direct rumors at this point.
Recent Fall Event
Apple usually has a second fall event after its September event, sometimes focusing on iPads or Macs. These events took place in October and November in the past, so we can see the late fall event this year as well as the non-stop products for the September event.
Products With Unknown Release Date
There are many other rumors that it will be operational by 2021, but we are not sure when these updates will come.
IPhone 12 MagSafe Battery Pack - Apple is working on a MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 12 models, which will magnetically attach it. There’s no word on when the battery pack is coming in and Apple is working to overcome some technical issues, but there was talk of a battery in iOS 14.5, so it may be introduced in the not too distant future.
IPad mini - There is a new version of the iPad mini coming in 2021, and there have been rumors that it may have an 8.5 to 9-inch display, but recently released dummy models have not shown a change in design. The updated mini will continue to install the Lightning hole, and if there is a larger display, it will be used to reduce the size of the bezel.
Low-priced iPad - Apple is upgrading the ninth-generation version of the less expensive iPad with a 10.2-inch display and smaller (6.3mm) builds similar to the third-generation iPad Air cut-out.
AirPods 3
Apple is working on a new version of AirPods, which will look similar to the AirPods Pro, but without the active audio cancellation. New AirPods will have smaller pages and shorter stems, and will be more expensive than AirPods Pro. There were many rumors suggesting that the AirPods 3 will launch in the first half of 2021, probably at a spring event, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March that earbuds would not enter large-scale production until the third quarter of 2021, marking the late launch of 2021.
AirPods Pro
Apple is working on a newer version of AirPods Pro with integrated design and a new wireless chip. The design is said to remove a short sticky stem from the ground, leading to a more rounded shape in the design of competing wireless ears from Google and Samsung.
MacBook Pro - Apple is working on a 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro expected to be released in the third quarter of 2021. These new devices will incorporate the most notable builds into the MacBook Pro line that we have seen since 2016, introducing design on the sides. The new MacBook Pros will charge more than MagSafe, will have more ports, and will have physical performance buttons instead of Touch Bar.
MacBook Air - Apple is developing a sleek and lightweight MacBook Air that will have smaller bezels than the current model. This device will incorporate MagSafe charging technology and USB 4 ports for connecting external devices. The new MacBook Air could be released in the second half of 2021 early, but Apple may choose to hold it until 2022.
AR Smart Glasses - Apple is working on unmistakable reality glasses that may arrive sometime in the next few years. The glasses are said to show a dedicated display, a built-in processor, and a "rOS" or real app. Input will be for touch, voice, and gesture panels, and is said to support applications from mapping to messaging. Preliminary rumors suggest that Apple's AR glasses will arrive in 2020, but now it sounds like the product will see a release in 2022, although Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that some type of AR product is coming from Apple in 2021 .
